Providing Mother Nature co-operates, the Ice trials will go on on 28 February 2010. It will be held at the Controy Pavilion, Onota Lake, Lakeway Dr., Pittsfield, MA. In the event of a cancellation a notice will be posted here and on the homepage. 15 inches of ice, lately. Event officials should report at 7:00. The event will follow the solo daily schedule found on this website. We should be on our way home by 5:30pm.
We are still looking for a Worker Chief and a Waiver Manager- (makes sure everyone, including spectators, signs the waiver). Could someone please volunteer soon. This is a non spectator event. I will not advertise it so we should get plenty of runs.
We have to sure that no-one drives on the lawn at the pavilion. They just spent $40,000 fixing it and our future races depend on it. We also need to watch for leaking vehicles. Any leaks will be reported to the primary Safety Steward and the Event Chair. We will have spill kits there and any collected spills will be disposed of by Formel Motor Co., who will also provide a covered barrel. Please show your respect for the environment.
All cars will have to be registered for the street. Homemade studded tires have been ok’d. They will be put in the Super class. At this time we plan to have 11 classes. (fwd studded, unstudded and super) studded being DOT tires, (rwd studded, unstudded and super), (4wd studded, unstudded and super), Team Formel loaner and Team Larson loaner. Car numbers will be chosen at the event and no class will be displayed on the vehicle. Shoe polish and painters tape will be available.

Guys,
I was wondering what the possibility is of getting SCCA sanctioning, MoHud support, for a Rallycross (Ice-trial event). The event would be in Pittsfield, MA on Onota Lake sometime this coming February. I'm an SCCA member so I could be the Event Steward but I would need to get preferably two, but at least one, Safety Stewards to help out. If you guys think it's a possibility I plan to attend the January meeting to discuss matters. We've held many similar events in the past but haven't done any in several years since Clark Nichols lost interest and I wasn't SCCA. I plan to have it run as a non-spectator event, if possible. I would apply for the sanctioning but MoHud would have to pay. We have timing equipment, but if we could use the pylons and radios that would be great. Lot's of fun, all you need to do is stud up your tires and want to slide sideways. It's interesting who shows up at some of these events and it would make SCCA some winter money. Most people who participate aren't SCCA hence the need for the Stewards. Please advise and thanks.

I'd be interested in either participating or helping out, depending on the schedule. Hint, maybe avoid Daytona 500 weekend, Feb 14? I can help a SSS for my second "internship" for SSS, or I can help with waiver, or something.
Can anyone enlighten us on the format? 4-6 runs, like autocross? 30-ish second course? One on course at a time? A big thing that could limit my ability to participate is that all I have is a full sized Chevy Silverado that would be suitable. I know AMEC doesn't allow such beasts to compete (something about a 2 1/2 ton vehicle attempting to go fast on ice). If I could run the truck, or borrow/rent a car, then I'd definitely run. _________________ Will

Just noticed Dave Kosla's name on the end of that. I'm guessing he sent that as an email to you, Russ? _________________ EJ Smith - SM 10

| Russ / Dave - any idea on how strict the rules would be for car setup? Would a set of old tires with screws installed be close enough to studs? I know a few old hands that used to ice race on Lake George... |

Glad some people have expressed some interest. Great idea on the Daytona conflict. We almost always had that problem, but most participants knew what took priority. Personally I'll try to schedule around it. As for classes basically they're FWD,RWD, or 4WD with or without studs or bolts. 4WD and FWD rally cars have done really well. Occasionally Skip Barber guys will show up with a Formula car all bolted up. Ive also seen older bmw's with bolts and a good driver kick some butt. It's fun no matter what you drive and anything could win it's class. If anyone interested could attend the January MoHud meeting that would be great. I have to get things going.

| 4-6 runs, one or two cars on course at a time autocross style. Not a good idea in a raised truck, lower one would have to be considered. There usually is a car that anyone can drive, I'll check into that. Courses have been over a mile long i dont recall times but they must be close to a minute. Don't forget we have a whole lake to play with. |

I'm in, nothing better than RWD unstudded on the ice...do I get seconds off for # of times I stuff it in the snow bank?
I'll be at the January meeting as there some other items that I want to be there for the discussion. _________________ Professional Novice Driver

I'm not driving SEFCU's Lexus onto or into a lake, same as I didn't drive SEFCU's Baja on a lake either(Just a Tree). The BMW is paid for and much lighter. And frankly, she begs to be beaten like a red-headed stepchild. _________________ +Dave+

AMEC limit tire choice to unstudded blizzaks or the big studded menard mofos. A rallyx format is much more inviting. I could be interested in embarrassing myself in a RHD scoobie.. _________________ mini coop #44 sm |
